How far is Boston from New York if you’re driving?

My college buddies and I are doing a road trip down the eastern coast for spring break. We’re starting from Boston and our first major stop is New York City—how far will that drive be?

That sounds like a blast! The distance between
Boston
and
New York
is about 215 miles, which will take roughly four hours to drive.
Of course, there are a bunch of different factors that can impact your drive time. Here are a few major ones:
  • Traffic: If you’re hoping to miss traffic, you might want to make it a weekend drive. Heavy traffic in NYC could add 30 minutes (or more!) to your trip.
  • Construction: I-91 should be smooth sailing, but you might run into construction on I-95. This could tack on a few extra minutes to your drive.
  • The route you choose: Here’s a big one, especially for road trippers! A straight shot down I-91 and I-95 is fastest, but there are some scenic routes that you could try out. For example, if you head through Providence and take I-95 the whole way, you’ll get to drive beside Long Island Sound and only add about 20 minutes to your trip.
Usually, car insurance companies hit college students like yourselves with high rates. If you want to fight to keep that rate down and save a little extra dough for spring break, download
