How far can you drive on a spare tire?

So my brother and I have concert tickets in Chicago tomorrow, but one of his tires popped after driving over a nail. He put the spare on, and he’s hell-bent on making it from Milwaukee on the spare, but I’m wondering—how far can you drive on a spare tire?

We all love a good concert, but driving long distances on a spare tire to get to a show is a definite no-no—you should drive no more than 50 miles per hour on a spare tire, and no farther than 50 miles. Considering the drive from Chicago to Milwaukee is a journey of 92 miles, heading out on a road trip with a spare tire is not safe and should not be done under any circumstances.
Spare tires aren’t meant for driving any further than to the closest repair shop. The goal is to get you there in one piece so that a qualified mechanic can swap out the spare for a new tire, thereby allowing you to get on your way safely.
So be a good brother and don’t let him hit the road with a spare—get it fixed as soon as possible.
