How does paint transfer in a car accident?

I got into a minor car accident a couple of weeks ago. I washed my car a few days ago and noticed a bunch of red paint on my car. I knew that paint transfer was something that happened in accidents, but I didn’t think it would be a result of such a minor fender bender. How does paint transfer in a car accident?

I’m sorry to hear that you were involved in an accident—even a minor accident can be a pain. Paint transfers when one car comes into contact with another. The contact doesn’t need to be major for one car’s paint to leave its mark on the other vehicle.
Fortunately, paint transfer does not automatically mean that your vehicle has a deep
scratch
. Often, paint transfer can be removed with a clay bar and some elbow grease.
If the clay bar does not work, you can also try some gentle sanding. Either way, you should follow up with a car wash and wax or buff.
If you want to get your car paint serviced professionally, it can be pricey. Make room in your budget for a pro paint job by saving money on car insurance with the
