How do you wrap your car in matte black vinyl?
What’s the best way to apply a matte black car wrap? I’d like to try it myself, but only if it isn’t too hard. I don’t want to risk messing anything up.

Wrapping your car is a great way to temporarily modify your car! While you’ll probably get a cleaner job from a professional, you can follow these steps to wrap your car in matte black vinyl:
- Park in a clean area to stop dust and dirt from getting on the vinyl.
- Thoroughly clean any areas of your car that you plan to wrap.
- Measure the area you’d like to wrap.
- Cut a piece of vinyl just a little bigger than the section you plan to wrap.
- Remove the liner from the back and lightly drape the vinyl over the soon-to-be-wrapped section.
- Pull the vinyl on each side and lightly stick it to the section you’d like to wrap until it looks tight and flat.
- Get rid of bubbles and creases by running over them with a card or squeegee.
- Lift any imperfect areas and use a heat gun to remove the issues.
- Reapply the vinyl so it’s flat against the car.
- Trim any excess bits of vinyl. Remember to cut out space for your door handles and any logos.
- Heat the wrapped area to secure the vinyl.
While professional wraps should last between 5 and 7 years, DIY jobs can last much shorter if done incorrectly! Luckily, you can leave it to a professional for $2,000 or less, depending on the shop you use.
