How do you temporarily fix a broken car window?

We had a pretty bad storm, and by storm, I mean hail storm, and by pretty bad, I mean ice chunks as large as baseballs crashed down. It did some severe damage to my house and car, including shattering one of my car’s passenger windows. How can I temporarily fix a broken window until I can afford a permanent solution?

It sounds like everyone is safe, which I’m happy to hear. To temporarily fix a broken car window, you can use masking tape and a heavy-duty trash bag to cover the window until you can get a more permanent solution.
To cover a broken window, you will need:
  • Masking tape
  • Heavy-duty trash bag
  • Work gloves
  • Cleaning supplies (like a broom dustpan)
Once you have your supplies gathered, here’s what you need to do:
  1. Clean broken glass out of your car with the dustpan and broom or a vacuum.
  2. Once clean inside, try to remove broken glass from the window frame (be sure to wear protective gloves).
  3. Once the area is clean, stretch the trash bag over the car opening on the inside of the car. You may need an assistant to help hold the bag, or you can shut the bag into the door to hold it steady.
  4. Tape the trash bag across the frame.
  5. Repeat this step for the outside of the car to cover the window from the inside and the outside.
While this is an easy and cheap fix, there are some car fixes you may need assistance with, so it’s always a good idea to invest in a solid
