How do you take apart a BMW key fob?

My toddler somehow got ahold of my BMW key fob and managed to completely destroy it. Fortunately, I have a spare, but I need to use the battery from the destroyed fob to get it working. How can I take apart a BMW key fob to remove the battery?

I’m sorry about your key! The good news is that taking apart a
BMW
key fob is simple if possible.
Depending on the year of your BMW, your key fob may be rechargeable. If your fob has an indent on the side, do not take it apart as these keys are rechargeable only. With this kind, driving around for about two hours should fully recharge it.
To take apart a BMW key fob that doesn’t have an indent, you should:
  1. Remove the key.
  2. Look for a groove in the opening where the manual key is stored. For some models, the groove is towards the bottom.
  3. Use a flat tool to pop off the key battery cover.
  4. Remove the battery. You’ll follow the same steps to replace the battery in your spare as well.
A spare key is a great preventative measure when you own a car. Another easy way to protect your car is with a good
