How do you sign over a car title in Florida?

What steps should I take to sign over a car title in Florida? I’m selling my car to a friend from college, and I’m having a little trouble figuring out how to transfer the title.

As far as title transfers go, Florida has a pretty straightforward process! The state encourages
buyers
and sellers to transfer the title in a DMV to avoid any confusion or miscommunication. Remember, if there’s a mistake in the title transfer, you may be accountable for fees or damages involving the car.
To transfer your title in
Florida
:
  • Fill out the Transfer of Title by Seller section on your car title.
  • You’ll need to provide the buyer’s name and address, as well as an odometer reading, selling price, and date of sale.
  • Sign the form where indicated.
  • The buyer must complete an Application for Certificate of Title with/without Registration form.
  • Submit both forms at the DMV.
Congratulations! If you followed those directions, you’ve transferred your title. Remember, the state of Florida requires you to transfer your title within 30 days of the sale or the state charges a late fee. Luckily, the process shouldn’t take too long!
