My current car is manual, and while I’m not on the market, I’m curious about EVs. How do you shift gears in an electric car?

Manual cars are great cars! Electric cars aren’t manual and so don’t require you to shift gears at all while driving.
Many of the new cars pumped out by manufacturers today are automatic and clutch-less. This means the vehicle determines which gear to drive in, and in some ways makes it easier for the driver.
EVs are also built this way and one of the biggest differences between EVs and gas-powered vehicles is that some
EVs only have one gear
. While you may not be able to gear up or down in an EV it doesn’t mean your electric vehicle isn’t powerful on the road. EVs have powerful torque and horsepower because the electrical engine can power the motor with the same level of power at any point on the road.
