Do I have to go to the DMV to renew my CT driver’s license? I’ve never had to renew my license here before so I’m not sure if I can do it online or not.
, you can either go online at portal.ct.gov/DMV or visit a DMV branch in person. Under certain conditions, some people (i.e. those in the military, people with certain medical conditions, those who are incarcerated, and people who are out of the state or country) may be able to renew via mail as well.
If you’d like to renew online, you’ll need to meet some qualifications:
You took a new photo the last time you renewed your ID.
You already have a Real ID or are not applying for one.
You are a U.S. citizen.
Your license is not commercial, drive only, or suspended and does not have an S, V, A, or F classification.
Your current license hasn’t been expired for more than two years.
You do not need to update your name.
If your license expired over two years ago, you will need to get a new license. This means that you’ll have to retake any driving exams, road tests, and vision tests that you took the first time you got your license.
