How do you read a car title?
How do I read the title of my new car? It has so many terms on it that I don’t know and I want to make sure everything is accurate.

Legal jargon can be very confusing, but don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are some categories you can expect to see when you read your car title:
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): This 17-digit item is used to identify your car through various owners, accidents, repairs, etc.
- Odometer Reading: This number should show the number of miles that were on the odometer when the car was last bought or sold.
- Make and Model: This section will usually include the brand and name of the car and might include the year (e.g., Honda Civic 2007).
- Weight Class: This defines what type of vehicle you drive and the weight of the vehicle. Higher-weight cars usually cost more to insure.
- Lien Holder: If your car is financed, you should see the lien holder listed on your title, too.
