How do you put tint on car headlights?

What's the best way to tint my car headlights? I’m a car-enthusiast and thought I’d tackle a DIY project. I want to tint my headlights because I like the aesthetic of it.

“Tinted headlights do look pretty cool! You can tint your car headlights yourself with vinyl tint film.
The first step is to dismount the headlight assembly by following the instructions in the vehicle’s repair manual.
Next, clean the headlight lens with soap, water, and a microfiber towel so the vinyl film will adhere properly and evenly. To ensure the surface is free of grease or dust, wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
Select a vinyl tint film designed specifically for headlights and follow the instructions that came with it. You will likely need to:
  • Remove the backing on the film.
  • Mist the back of the vinyl sheet, as well as the surface of the headlight.
  • Carefully align the film on the flattest part of the headlight lens and work your way toward the curved edges.
  • Once you have adjusted the position of the film to your liking, wet the side of the sheet facing you and use a squeegee starting from the flattest part of the lens to push out all the trapped air and water.
  • Use a heat gun or blow dryer to make the tint more flexible in order to cover the curved and difficult surfaces, if necessary.
  • Finally, trim the excess film and reinstall the headlight lens.

basic car maintenance
