How do you program a Toyota HomeLink garage door opener?

My parents want to buy a new vehicle and they’re looking at some Toyota models. They want to use the HomeLink feature to open their garage door, but none of us are familiar with HomeLink. How do you program a Toyota HomeLink garage door opener? Is it simple enough that my parents can figure it out?

The
Toyota
HomeLink system is pretty user-friendly, and programming it to work with your garage door opener is easy and should take more than a few minutes.
Here’s how the process works:
  • Take your hand-held transmitter for your garage door opener and point it 1 to 3 inches away from the HomeLink buttons in your
    Toyota
    .
  • Press and hold both the transmitter button and the HomeLink button you want to program. Keep holding both buttons until the HomeLink indicator light starts blinking rapidly.
  • Find the “Learn” or “Train” button on your garage door motor. Press this button firmly.
  • Get back in your vehicle and press the programmed HomeLink button for two seconds. Keep pressing the HomeLink button (two seconds at a time) until the garage door opens.
