How do you program a 1999 Honda Accord key?
I changed the battery in my Honda Accord key. Something must have happened because it won’t unlock the doors anymore. I don’t want to spend the money on a professional, but I don’t know how to fix it myself. What’s the best way to reprogram my 1999 Honda Accord key?

Reprogramming your key may sound like a complicated process, but try not to worry—it’s actually pretty easy! Follow these steps to program your 1999 Honda Accord key:
- Step 1: Open your car with the metal key and insert the key in the ignition.
- Step 2: Turn the key to the ON (II) position.
- Step 3: Click either the lock or unlock button on your unprogrammed key.
- Step 4: Switch the ignition to LOCK (0).
- Step 5: Repeat steps 2-4 two more times, for a total of three cycles.
- Step 6: Press either the lock or unlock button on any remotes you’d like to program. If they connect, the locks in your car should cycle.
- Step 7: To leave programming mode, turn the ignition to LOCK (0).
- Step 8: Test your keys.
