Painting your car interior with custom paint colors will make your Charger
pop and give it a unique flare. Fortunately, even a novice painter or DIYer can get the job done with minimal effort. You’ll just need to remove the parts you want to customize, then sand, paint, and wax them.
Before you begin, note that you probably don’t want to paint all of your interior. Several pieces inside your car can’t be removed easily. So, unless you know what you’re doing, it might be more hassle than it’s worth—or worse, you could damage your car.
With that warning in mind, let’s continue!
To start, remove the trim that you want to paint. You may need to use a screwdriver as a prying tool, but place a rag between the screwdriver head and the trim to avoid damaging other parts of the interior or the trim itself. Some other pieces inside your car will simply require unscrewing a screw to be removed.
Once you’ve taken out the pieces you want to paint, use an orbital sander or 400- or 600-grit sandpaper to sand the pieces. Then, use a wax/grease remover or mineral spirits to clean off any dust or debris.
Next, spray the trim and other pieces with primer so the paint sticks better. Let it dry for 20 minutes, then apply a second coat.
Finally, spray paint the trim your chosen color. Repeat as many times as necessary, letting the paint dry thoroughly between coats. Finish it all off with wax.
Let everything dry, reinstall it, and you’re done!
