How do you open the gas tank on a BMW 650i?
My wife and I just rented a convertible BMW 650i for our anniversary vacation, but we’re having trouble finding the latch that opens the gas tank. Is there a special trick to it?

First of all, happy anniversary! Second, you won’t find a gas door latch on the BMW 650i because there isn’t one. To open the gas tank on a
BMW
650i, just push on the edge of the fuel door and it’ll spring right open. That part is simple, but there are a few things to remember before rolling up at the gas station:- Your fuel door is on the passenger side of the car
- Your car has to be in park first
- Your doors have to be unlocked for the fuel door to open
Depending on which model of the 650i you’re driving, your gas tank probably holds between 18.5 to 21.1 gallons of fuel, and it averages about 20 miles per gallon. This, of course, depends on a few different elements, including which model you have, where you drive most, and how you drive. Regardless of the details, everyone can stand to cut down on gas consumption. Here are a few simple tricks to do it:
- Drive carefully, avoiding sharp acceleration and sudden braking when possible.
- Avoid idling your BMW whenever possible.
