How do you open the gas tank on a BMW 435i?
I just picked up a used BMW 435i from the dealership, and I’m super excited to drive it! However, I realized the gas tank was low, and I couldn’t figure out how to open the tank door for the life of me. How do I open the gas tank?

It is important to know how to refuel your car—and you won’t get very far without it! If you’re looking for a lever inside the car to open the gas tank, you probably won’t find it—and that’s because there isn’t one! To open the gas tank on a
BMW 435i
, just press the fuel door on the exterior of the car. Here’s how to do it:
- Turn your BMW OFF and ensure the doors are unlocked.
- Lightly press the left side of the fuel door (near the top left corner).
- Unscrew the gas cap and place it in the holder on the door.
To close it, replace the fuel cap and push the door shut until you hear a click.
When filling your car with gas, ensure you remove the nozzle when it clicks off. Overfilling the fuel tank on your BMW by more than three clicks can lead to the following:
- Vehicle performance issues (engine stalling, fuel system damage, etc.)
- Fuel spills
- Potential fuel fires
