Opening the gas tank on a 2017 Dodge Charger
is incredibly easy to do, but it can be a bit difficult to get used to if you’re used to driving older Charger models. All you have to do to open the gas tank on a 2017 Dodge Charger is press the fuel filler door release switch in the driver’s door map pocket—it should be easy to spot as it bears a white fuel-pump symbol. After pressing this switch, the fuel filler door will automatically open within a few seconds. Once it opens, you’re ready to refuel, as the 2017 Dodge Charger uses a capless refueling system.
Rather than sealing the gas tank with a cap, the 2017 Dodge Charger employs a flapper door to seal the fuel filler pipe. This means that all you have to do to refuel is insert the fuel nozzle into the pipe, which will open the flapper door and pump fuel into the tank.
Before fueling up for the first time, make sure you know which type of fuel your 2017 Dodge Charger uses, as it varies depending on the engine size:
3.6L engine—uses high-quality unleaded “regular” gasoline with an octane rating of 87
5.7L engine—uses high-quality unleaded gasoline with an octane rating between 87 and 89
6.4L engine—uses high-quality unleaded “premium” gasoline with an octane rating of 91
Once you have finished refueling, remove the fuel nozzle and firmly shut the fuel filler door to latch it.
