How do you open the gas tank on a 2012 Nissan Altima?
I’m not used to driving a Nissan, but I’m borrowing my parents’ car for a couple of weeks while mine’s in the shop. How do I open the gas tank on this 2012 Nissan Altima?

To open the gas tank on a 2012
Nissan Altima
, you’ll need to pull up on the fuel door release lever, which can be found to the left of the steering wheel next to the hood release lever. It will have an icon of a gas pump on it to indicate its function.Once you pull that lever, you’ll gain access to the gas cap on the outside of the car. You’ll need to unscrew the gas cap in order to access the fuel tank. Then, you can easily fill up the tank before replacing the gas cap and pressing the door back into place.
If you’re not able to open the fuel door using the fuel door release lever, you’ll need to talk to a mechanic to get the spring mechanism examined. Try to do this sooner rather than later since you won’t be able to put more gas in the tank if you run out while it’s broken!
