Don’t worry, lots of people have a hard time figuring out how to open the BMW
key fob. There are several types of BMW key fobs, and they all open slightly differently. Here’s how to open each one: Smart Key Fob
You can open the standard smart key fob simply by removing the key blade and then sliding the back cover off.
Comfort Access BMW Key
If you have a comfort access BMW key fob, you can open it by pressing the small tab in the fob and removing the valet key. Then, place the valet key (or a screwdriver) into the access port and gently pry off the battery cover.
Non-Comfort Access Key Fob
If you have a non-comfort access BMW key fob—indicated by an indent in the side—you actually cannot open it. Fortunately, you won’t need to. The non-comfort access fob has a rechargeable battery that automatically recharges when the key is in the ignition. If the battery has completely died, you’ll need to visit a BMW service center to have it replaced. \
Sleek Slant-Shaped Key Fob
If you have a sleek slant-shaped key fob, push the release button to remove the valet key. Once the key is removed, you’ll see a small groove in the opening. Use the key to turn the groove clockwise and gently pry the fob with a screwdriver.
Diamond Key Fob
If you have a diamond key fob, you will not be able to open it. Instead, you’ll need to visit a BMW service center to have the battery replaced.
