How do you open a BMW key?
The key fob of my BMW hasn’t been working. I think the battery is on its way out. I have to take the old battery out before buying a new one, but how can I open my BMW key?

Having a dead key fob can undoubtedly be frustrating, but the process to open a
BMW
key varies depending on the type of key fob you have.Before explaining how to open your BMW key, you should know that if your key fob has an indent on the side, it is rechargeable, and you shouldn’t replace it at home. However, driving around for about two hours with the key inserted should have it working again.
If your key doesn’t have an ident on the side, here’s how to open your BMW key and install a new battery:
- Remove the manual key from the fob.
- Locate the small groove in the opening where the key is stored. On some key fob models, the groove isn’t in the manual key slot but rather towards the bottom of the fob.
- Insert the key or a flat screwdriver into the groove and pry off the key battery cover.
- Remove the old battery and insert a new one.
- Put the battery cover back and place the manual key in the fob.
From there, you should be all set!
