How do you fix an oil leak on a BMW?

My car is definitely leaking. I’m not sure if this is something that I’ll need to bring my car in for or if it’s something I can fix myself. The leak seems to be coming from under the front part of my car, but I’m not exactly sure what the problem is. How do you stop a BMW from leaking?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having problems with your car, but it’s great that you’re addressing the issue quickly! You might be able to fix an oil leak on a
BMW
at home depending on what the problem is.
There are a number of things that could be causing the leak:
  • A loose filler cap: If the filler cap
    under the hood
of your BMW is loose, the oil can slosh out and drip down through the engine. To fix this problem, simply tighten or replace the filler cap.
  • A loose or corroded drain plug: The drain plug on the bottom of your car could be loose or corroded, leading to leaky oil. To fix this problem, you can either tighten the drain plug with a wrench or replace it entirely.
  • A worn-out oil filter: When your oil filter wears out, it can cause debris to build up in your engine and leaks to drip through the bottom of your car. To fix this problem, you’ll need to replace the oil filter. This process can be a little difficult and may require
placing your car on jack stands
, so you may want to contact a professional to fix this issue.
  • A broken valve gasket seal: If your car is older, it’s possible that the leak was caused by a broken valve gasket seal. This issue is best left to professionals, as installing a new gasket seal can be a little tricky.
