How do you claim rental car insurance with a credit card?
My wife and I are going on a vacation to Utah next week. We're renting a car at the airport, and want to know the details about using the rental insurance that comes with our credit card. Can you walk us through how to get rental car insurance with a credit card?

Excellent question! Having a credit card that offers
rental car insurance
can save you the headache of purchasing additional coverage through the rental agency.To start with, your rental will already be covered under your existing auto policy, if you have one, in addition to the rental agency’s policy which covers state minimum insurance requirements for every vehicle in their fleet.
Credit card rental coverage policies typically only cover comprehensive and collision insurance.
Most credit cards will not cover your rental if you choose to purchase a coverage package from the rental agency, meaning you should decline the collision damage waiver and loss damage waiver from the rental company.
Keep in mind that most credit cards will not cover:
- expensive rental vehicles that are valued at over $50,000.
- classic cars over 20 years old or that have been out of production for over 10 years
- vans or trucks that can move more than 8 passengers
- motorcycles and mopeds or anything with fewer than 4 wheels
