How do you check the insurance status of a car?

My mom’s car has seen better days, and she can’t remember if it’s insured or not. She’s not sure where the paperwork is, although she doesn’t remember throwing it out—so how can we check whether or not her car is insured?

Good question! To check her car’s insurance status, your mom should contact the company she was last insured with.
If you can’t find her insurance paperwork, try checking her email. Many companies send insurance information through both email and snail mail, so it’s worth checking both out. If you still can’t find her information, it’s good to call the company directly, since they should have all the information about her policy.
If this isn’t an option and email searches have come back empty, the DMV should have the information. At this point, although it’s good to be certain about your mom’s insurance history, you may also want to simply
switch
to a new provider.
