charging is fairly straightforward. Make sure you read your owners’ manual for specifications on what kind of plug-ins and cable you need to safely charge
your GEM.Step 1: Open the hood, locating the on-board battery charger.
Step 2: With a flooded-type battery, check the water level first. Your owners manual can tell you if that applies to you.
Step 3: Determine if you have a regular charging battery or a fast charge.
Step 4: For regular charging, make sure to use a GFCI equipped cord if the outlet you’re using isn’t GFCI protected. If the plug is GFCI protected, you can use a high quality extension cord. Don’t use a GFCI cord with a GFCI protected outlet.
Step 5: For a fast charge vehicle, use a charging station with a J1772 connection, or an adapter cord can be used to plug into a standard outlet.
Step 6: Plug the battery charger from the vehicle into the wall. Make sure you use a dedicated circuit to avoid overloading.
The charger will automatically shut off when the vehicle is fully charged, monitoring the battery to keep it above 97% consistently. You can see the state of charge of the batteries in the rider information center. It’ll say “C” when charging.
