How do you change the spark plugs in a 2009 Kia Rio?

The spark plugs in my 2009 Kia Rio are in serious need of replacement. I’ve already bought the right replacement plugs, but I’m not sure of the correct way to go about switching them out. How do I change the spark plugs in my Rio?

Replacing the spark plugs in a 2009
Kia Rio
is pretty straightforward. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Pop the hood.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Remove the 10mm screws holding the plastic cover in place, then remove the plastic cover.
  • Remove the 10mm bolts godling each ignition pack in place.
  • Remove each ignition pack.
  • Using a ratchet and spark plug socket, remove the spark plugs.
  • Insert the new spark plugs and tighten them using a ratchet and spark plug socket
  • Reinsert ignition backs and bolt them back down.
  • Reattach the plastic cover and screw it back down.
  • Reattach the battery.
You’re all set! The whole process should only take about an hour.
