How do you change the car key battery in a Nissan?

The car key remote for my Nissan was working really inconsistently, and now it doesn’t work at all. Getting an original Nissan new key fob is expensive. How can I change the battery in the key fob for my Nissan?

Yikes, how annoying! Keyless entry is so convenient, and when it doesn’t work, it’s a huge bummer.
To change the car key battery in your Nissan, start by finding out which battery you need. It’s probably a CR2025 battery, but you should look in your owner’s manual to be sure. Once you have your replacement battery, do the following.
  • Flip the key fob over and push the release latch
  • Pull out the spare key at the bottom of the fob
  • Remove the key housing, and then take a photo to remember the battery’s position
  • Use a flathead screwdriver or similar to gently pry out the battery
  • Install the new battery (check the photo you took earlier to make sure the position is correct)
  • Reassemble the remote and test it to make sure it’s working
You’re done! Good job!
