How do you change the back brakes on a 2000 Ford Mustang?

I think the rear brakes on my Ford Mustang are in need of changing. I’m familiar with how the car works and I’ve done a lot of my own maintenance for the past few years, so I feel pretty confident that I can do it with proper instruction. How do you install new back brakes?

While changing the back brakes on a 2000
Ford Mustang
may sound intimidating, it doesn’t have to be. If you’re comfortable making adjustments and repairs under the hood, this should be a piece of cake. And if you aren’t, that’s okay—seek the help of a mechanic and save yourself the headache and possible damage.
You will need:
  • Jack stands
  • Work gloves
  • A rag
  • Lug wrench or tire iron
  • 12-mm wrench
  • 15-mm wrench
  • Caliper piston tool
  • Breaker bar
  • Large socket wrench
  1. Elevate the car on jack stands.
  2. Remove the wheel you’ll be working on with the lug wrench or tire iron.
  3. Remove the two 12-mm bolts located next to the accordion boots, which house the caliper sliders.
  4. Lift the caliper away to reveal two 15-mm bolts.
  5. Use a caliper piston tool to loosen the piston.
  6. Use your breaker bar and socket wrench and remove the two 15-mm bolts.
  7. Put new pads in place of the old ones, replace the bracket, and reinstall the two 15-mm bolts.
  8. Replace the caliper onto the bracket and reinstall the 12-mm bolts onto the sliders.
  9. Put the wheel back on, repeat the process with the other rear wheel, and you’re done!
Taking the time to replace your rear brakes yourself says that you really care for your Mustang. So make sure you have the best
