How do you change a Volvo key fob battery?

I bought a used Volvo about a year ago. It came with an extra key fob, but the battery in it was dead. I have just gotten around to getting a new one, but I am not sure how to get it into the fob. How do you change a Volvo key fob battery?

It is always nice to have a backup
key fob
, in case yours dies or gets broken when you are away from home.
To replace your Volvo key fob battery, pry open the key fob with the emergency key, remove the old battery, and pop in the new one.
To change your
Volvo
key fob battery, you will need a CR2430 replacement battery (which costs about $5). Here is how to make the switch:
  • Slide the small release on the back of the keyfob to remove the metal emergency key from the fob.
  • Use the emergency key to pry off the back cover of the fob.
  • Locate and remove the old battery.
  • Install the new battery with the + on the back.
  • Snap the fob back together and replace the metal key in its slot.
