How do I unplug a Tesla Model S from the charger?
I’ve been thinking about buying a Tesla and my friend was kind enough to let me test drive his Model S for a few days, but I haven’t even been able to get it off the charger yet. How do I unplug a Tesla Model S from its charger?

That’s very kind of your friend to let you test drive his car! Teslas don’t operate like a standard car, so it is common to have many questions, including how to unplug the vehicle from its charger.
To remove a Model S from the charger:
- Make sure the vehicle is unlocked.
- Hold down the button on the charger handle until the light turns blue.
- Remove the charger once the light has changed.
If the above standard procedure does not work:
- Make sure the vehicle is not actively charging by looking at the center screen.
- Open the trunk.
- Open the flap on the left-hand side of the trunk.
- Hold down the charge port’s manual release lever to release the charger.
