It’s great that you checked your oil to make sure there wasn’t a problem—sometimes, there can be an issue with the reset button for your change engine oil light, and you may have to reset it manually. If this is the case, follow these steps:
Turn your key to the on position, but do not start the engine
Press down on your accelerator pad three times in quick succession (within about 5 seconds)
Sometimes, that’s all it takes! If your oil light does not come on once you’ve started the engine, that means you’ve successfully reset it. If not, you can try the following:
Locate your car’s fuse box—usually, it’s under the dashboard, between the driver’s side door and your steering wheel
Press the reset button. It should beep three times
Once you’ve reset the button manually, the oil light should stay off once you’ve started your car’s engine. If all else fails, consult your car’s owner’s manual for special instructions.
