It’s great that you are taking care of your car’s scheduled maintenance! However, it can feel useless to have your car serviced if the pesky warning light won’t turn off. Luckily, you can reset the system yourself.
To perform this procedure, you won’t need any special tools or instruments. Simply follow the steps below and you’ll be back to cruising in your BMW as usual!
Step 1: Turn on the car by inserting your key into the ignition or holding the START button, depending on your model of BMW.
Step 2: Find the Odometer Reset button on the instrument cluster and hold it down
Step 3: A small triangle with an exclamation point inside should display on the dash. Continue to hold the reset button down until the Oil Symbol or Microfilter Symbol comes up on the dash.
Step 4: Now that you’ve entered the Service Menu, you can reset any service reminders. Press the Reset button until the brake reservoir symbol appears on the dash.
Step 5: Hold the Odometer Reset button for 5-10 seconds until a “Reset?” message appears on the screen.
Step 6: Release the button and then press and hold it down again.
Step 7: Wait to release the button for about 5 seconds. The reset will complete and the light will change from red to yellow. “Reset?” will change to “OK” or “Reset”.
If you’ve followed the steps and the system does not successfully reset, refer to your BMW’s owner’s manual for additional information.
