How do I turn my windshield wipers off?

I recently bought a used Chevy Malibu, and three days ago had my first experience driving in the rain here in Nevada. I managed to turn the windshield wipers on, but now every five seconds or so the wipers go off. Please help, how do I turn my windshield wipers off?

Congrats on the new car - and on getting some much-needed rain in
Nevada
. Hearing the intermittent squeak of a dry wiper certainly sounds torturous. Luckily, there are only a couple of things that could be wrong here: either your wipers aren’t actually turned off or a part is malfunctioning.
Here’s how to turn windshield wipers off:
  • Push up on the wiper control to the right of your steering wheel and see if the wiper speed changes.
  • If the speed changes, push up on the control again.
  • Continue to cycle through until the wipers turn off.
If that doesn’t work, there could be an issue with one of the following parts:
  • Wiper relay. This is the internal electric mechanism and should cost less than $50 to fix.
  • Switch. This is located within the steering column and involves the circuitry that turns the wipers on and off.
  • Park switch. This is the part that lets the wipers know when they’ve reached the windshield and may indicate the wiper motor needs replacing.
Properly functioning windshield wipers are a legal necessity for safety reasons, and wipers that run continuously on a dry windshield could get damaged or burn out the motor. If you cannot solve the problem, bring your car
to a mechanic
