Planning ahead is one of the best things you can do to travel with guinea pigs in the car. On top of acclimating them to the ride, follow these tips for a carefree trip:
Bring water-rich vegetables. Guinea pigs require hydration to feel comfortable and healthy, so stock up.
Buy an appropriately sized carrier that you can strap in with a seat belt. This will keep your guinea pigs safe and secure during the trip, even if you have to make an evasive maneuver.
Resist the urge to put blankets in the carrier. Some wood chips or bedding is fine, but blankets can cause a lack of ventilation that can make your guinea pigs ill.
Don’t put a water bottle in the carrier. It would likely leak and soak the cage—and your guinea pigs won’t be happy about it.
