To tighten the oil filter you can comfortably do it by hand.
You should not need a special tool to tighten (or release) your oil filter. Simply use your hands and turn it until it stops naturally. This is called “finger-tight.” At this point, try to twist it another quarter of a turn. Most boxes say to tighten it 2/3 to 3/4 of a turn past when the gasket contacts the base.
Keep in mind that over-tightening is as bad as under-tightening. Both can cause dangerous and unsightly leaks.
