How do I scan the road while driving?

I’m going to take my driving test soon, and my instructor told me to always scan the road. The only problem is that I’m not exactly sure what she means. How can I scan the road when I’m driving?

Scanning the road is essential to becoming a
safe driver
. To properly scan the road while driving, look ahead 15 to 20 seconds at all times and use your mirrors consistently.
When you’re scanning, keep an eye out for:
  • Other motorists
  • Potential hazards
  • Construction zones
  • Wildlife
  • Accidents
As long as you’re scanning ahead, nothing can sneak up on you. You should feel more confident and more in control as a result
With any luck, you’ll pass your driving test—which is so exciting! But don’t forget you’re going to need car insurance before you hit the road. If you’re not sure where to start, download
