How do I reset oil life in a Honda Pilot?

The oil life light on my dashboard keeps lighting up. It looks like a little wrench on the instrument cluster. How can I reset the oil life on my Honda Pilot?

Generally speaking, the tiny wrench–aka, the oil life–lights up when you need to get an oil change. To reset the oil life in a
Honda Pilot
, turn the key to the on position, press the trip button until you get to the oil life on your instrument cluster, then hold the trip button for 10 seconds.
If you need more in-depth instructions, do the following:
  • Put the key in the ignition and turn to the on position. Don’t start the engine.
  • The trip button is located to the left of the speedometer.
  • Press the button until you see Service on the instrument cluster.
  • Hold the trip button until the oil life percentage on the instrument cluster starts blinking.
  • Release and hold the button again until it resets to 100%.
At a Honda dealership, they’ll reset that light. But if you take your Pilot to another dealership, they won’t. As a subtle reminder, only reset your Honda Pilot oil life as part of your
routine maintenance
following an oil change. Don’t reset it randomly or you can risk damaging your engine by having oil beyond its useful life.
The next time you get an oil change, use that time to carefully review your car insurance. Millions of Americans overpay for car insurance, but that doesn’t mean you have to be one of them. Instead, download the number-one-rated car insurance app, Jerry.
