How do I replace my lost car title in Texas?
I live in Texas and I’m looking to sell my car but I realized that I haven’t seen my car title in years. How can I replace a lost title?

You can obtain a new title either in person or by mail through a Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Regional Service Center. The replacement is referred to as a Certified Copy of Title.
Note that Texas cannot issue a replacement title for another state.
In order to receive your new title, submit the following information:
- Completed Certified Copy of Title application (Form VTR-34)
- Evidence the loan is paid in full (original release of lien), if applicable
- Copy of the vehicle owner(s) current driver license(s) or government-issued photo identification
- In-person fee: $5.45 (cash, check, or money order payable to TxDMV)
- By mail fee: $2.00 (check or money order payable to TxDMV—no cash)
Once you have your replacement title, you’re ready to sell. Then,
cancel your car insurance
when the sale is complete.This can be done simply by calling your insurance company and requesting to cancel.
