Oh no, sorry to hear you got pulled over! To replace a Subaru Forester brake light, you will need a replacement bulb, a Phillips head screwdriver, and possibly a plastic pry bar.
There are quite a few lights on the rear end of your vehicle. Make sure you determine which one is out before you buy a bulb. Get a friend to stand behind the vehicle—or set your phone up to record yourself—if you need help figuring it out.
If you have a 2014-2017 Subaru Forester, here are the lights you may need:
Rear turn signal: 7740A or WY21W
Rear side marker: 2825 or W5W
When you’re ready to replace the bulb, here’s the process:
Remove the bolts on the inner edge of the light
Find the pegs that slot into the plastic button head mount, and slowly pull the housing off
Use the plastic pry bar if necessary (be gentle to avoid cracking the plastic)
Locate the burnt out bulb (brake light is the larger bulb at the top inner corner)
Wear gloves and swap out the old lightbulb
If the bulb burned out due to regular wear and tear, you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket to replace it. However, if it was damaged by something, it may be covered
