How do I remove the harmonic balancer bolt on a Ford?

I’ve noticed some added vibration on my Ford while I’m driving. I asked a friend about it and he said that my harmonic balancer probably needs a replacement. However, I’m having trouble removing the bolt. How do I take off the harmonic balancer bolt on a Ford?

Harmonic balancers, also known as dampeners, are a vital, little-known part in your Ford. They remove unwanted vibrations from the crankshaft—but they’re notoriously difficult to remove. Breaker bars, drills, and other tools often don’t work on the dampener bolt, so you’ll likely need an impact wrench to take it out.
Unfortunately, impact wrenches will usually cost around $50—even at cost-effective shops like Walmart or Harbor freight. Ask around to see if you can borrow one before you buy it.
Once you have the impact wrench:
  • Attach it to the harmonic balancer that’s located just below the engine block in your Ford.
  • Connect it to the dampener bolt.
  • Turn on the impact wrench.
Now, the bolt should either be removed or loose enough that you can easily take it out. Remember, your faulty harmonic balancer may still be covered under
