How do I pack records for moving across the country?

I am moving from Florida to Colorado with only the items that can fit in my truck. I have a pretty valuable record collection and would like it to get all in one piece. How can I safely pack records for such a big move?

The safest way to pack records for moving is by using the correct size box and packing materials. Here is a step-by-step guide for what to do:
  • If you have a large collection, create a catalog before you box things up
  • Find a few sturdy boxes that are square, 12.5” x 12.5”
  • Get bubble wrap, packing paper, or packing peanuts
  • Put albums in inner and outer poly sleeves to prevent the records and album covers from damage
  • Pack boxes with about 80 single albums and fill the remaining space with packing material. Make sure the records can’t shift when moved
  • Seal boxes tightly
  • Keep them out of the sun, preferably in the cab of your air-conditioned truck
