How do I open the gas tank on a Toyota RAV4?
I have a Toyota RAV4 that I recently purchased. The only weird thing is that I’m a bit embarrassed by it—I have no idea how to open the gas tank to fill the car. How do I do it?

Opening the gas tank on a Toyota RAV4 will depend on what model year you have.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what you need to do based on your model:
- 2019–2023: Look underneath the dash on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. Next to the hood release, you should see a small button with a gas pump icon on it. Push it and the tank will open.
- 1994–2018: Take a glance at the driver’s side floorboard near the door jamb, and you should see a lever. Pull up on it and the gas tank will open.
