How do I open the gas tank on a BMW?
My friend let me borrow her BMW for the weekend. It’s Sunday night, and I’d like to fill up the tank before I return it. However, now that I’m at the gas station, I suddenly realize that I have no idea how to put gas into her car! Let’s start at the beginning—Can you tell me how to open a gas tank on a BMW?

It’s nice of you to fill up the tank before you return it! Because you didn’t indicate the model you’re driving, here are some general directions that should work to open the gas tank on a
BMW
. First, many BMWs do not have a release lever on the inside of the car, so if you don’t see one, that’s why. Secondly, you must have the doors unlocked and the engine off before exiting the car and locating the gas tank door (which is likely on the passenger’s side).
When you find the gas tank door, gently press the left outside edge of the door, and it should pop open.
And don’t forget to close the gas tank door when you’re done filling the tank and screwing the gas cap back on.
