probably isn’t at the top of your mind. But it is important to know If your car is covered if you ever get into an accident. Many states require car insurance, meaning you must provide proof of insurance
to the DMV or law enforcement. The first step to check is to look at your current policy. If you remember your insurance company’s name or you have your policy documents, you should see your coverage dates listed. It should also list which vehicles have coverage. Accessing an online account or mobile app should show you the same information.
If you can’t remember the name of your insurance company, check your email or review bank statements. Look for emails or recurring charges from insurance companies. If they charge monthly, it should be easy to spot. If you paid for the policy all at once, you need to go back further.
Another option is to contact the DMV. Since they keep records of insurance coverage, you may be able to access your information this way.
