How do I know if my car insurance covers rentals?

I'm taking a six-month sabbatical to travel around the U.S. I'm going to take public transportation if possible, but I want to rent a car occasionally. I don't want to have to buy new insurance if I already have it, so is there any way to know if my car insurance covers rentals?

“Congrats on your sabbatical, and enjoy the time off! I’m happy to say that in most cases,
car insurance
, including liability and comprehensive coverage, will carry over to rental cars. However, you may want to contact your car insurance company just to make sure.
In some cases, the credit card you use for your purchase may offer a coverage, most notably acting as your collision damage waiver insurance. Cards with annual fees may have more inclusive coverage that protects you more than no-fee cards.
If you don’t own a car, you may want to consider non-owner car insurance if you’re planning on renting numerous cars during your trip. Use the
Jerry
app to compare personalized rates and find the best price for your budget and your needs.
Have a great trip!”
