How do I know if I should change my driving instructor?
I just started taking driving lessons. At first, my driving instructor was OK, but in the past two weeks, something’s changed. I’m not sure what. When should you switch driving instructors?

Sorry to hear that your driving instructor’s demeanor has changed. You might want to change driving instructors if your instructor:
- Yells at you
- Is on his or her mobile phone
- Doesn’t provide adequate instruction
- Exhibits stress if you don’t get something right the first time
- Shows up late
- Cuts your lessons short
- Cancels frequently at the last minute
- Grabs the steering wheel
- Charges more than most instructors
- Has a set mileage
Perhaps more important than any other aspect, you should change driving instructors if you don’t feel like you’re improving behind the wheel. Driving lessons should make you feel more confident as a driver. If you’re not learning, you’re stressed out, or you loathe each lesson, you may need to switch your instructor.
Check with your current driving school to see if you can get a different instructor. If this isn’t possible, search other local driving schools and ask to meet the instructor beforehand.
