How do I jump-start a truck with multiple batteries?
I have a Freightliner Cascadia with multiple batteries and I think they’re running low. I’m not sure which battery I should connect to the jump starter, but I don’t want to take my truck to the shop to have this fixed. Do you know how I can safely jump-start my truck?

You can definitely jump-start a truck with multiple batteries, but you’ll want to make sure you have a jump starter with enough power to supply energy to your engine. And make sure you connect the jump starter to the battery closest to the starter!
Below is a step-by-step guide to help you jump-start a truck with multiple batteries:
- Step 1: Buy the appropriate jump starter for your truck (check the specs to make sure you have the right size)
- Step 2: Find solid ground for the complete conductive circuit, then connect the ground wire to the chassis or engine block, far from the battery (never connect the to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet metal body parts)
- Step 3: Check your battery’s water level (if low, add distilled water to meet specifications; overfilling can cause leakage)
- Step 4: Secure and tighten the connections (all battery connections should be inspected for discoloration—a rusted connection usually means a build-up of carbon deposits, which could cause a voltage drop)
- Step 5: Jump the correct battery (if your truck has multiple batteries, make sure you connect the jump starter to the battery closest to the starter)
