How do I insure a car in someone else's name?

I bought a car a few years ago, but my financial situation has really improved in the last year, and I'm going to buy a new one soon. I am my brother's legal guardian, and I've decided that I'm going to give it to him once I get my new car. Is there any way I can insure it in his name?

“Congrats on your up-and-coming financial situation—and that is a very sweet thought! Unfortunately, you cannot insure a car in someone else’s name if you’re the person on the
title and registration
—but you can add your brother to your insurance policy.
They’ll likely ask for details such as his name, age, occupation, driving record, etc. As a heads up, his
driving record
will likely affect your rates—but if he’s a responsible driver, you hopefully won’t be affected too badly!
However, if your brother is under 24, your rates might go up significantly. In these situations, getting a new policy altogether can sometimes be cheaper than adding someone to your old one, so try shopping around for different plans and providers!
One of the easiest ways to do this is through the
Jerry app
—we’ll get you customized quotes from different providers instantly, so that you just have to choose the one that works best for you! And once you do choose, we’ll even help you switch.
Hope you and your brother both have fun with your respective new cars!”
