How do I hand paint a car with a brush?
Can I hand paint my car? I have an old car that I rarely use and I want to try my hand at hand-painting a car. Is it actually possible to paint a car with a brush and if so, how?

Kudos to you for wanting to take on such a cool project! I’m happy to say that you can absolutely paint a car with a brush! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Drop cloth
- Masking tape
- Mixing cups
- Paintbrush
- Paint Tray
- Power sander
Here’s what to do:
- Put on your safety gear, then remove the headlights and taillights.
- Use a power sander to remove old paint from your car. Use smaller pieces of sandpaper to get hard-to-reach areas.
- Rinse all the sanded areas down, then cover all areas you don’t want to get paint on with masking tape.
- Mix 50% Rustoleum paint with 50% mineral spirits, then apply thin coats to your car. Wait 30 minutes in between coats for best results.
- Check your paint job after it’s fully dried for imperfections. You can smooth them out with a wet sander.
- Reinstall your lights and you’re ready to go!
