How do I get my child a driving permit?

My daughter just turned 16 and I want to get her a learning driving permit, but I’m not sure how to do that. Where do I need to go? We just moved to Indiana so I’m still not super familiar with the state laws.

In order to get your daughter a
driving permit
in Indiana, you’ll need to visit your local DMV branch and bring documents proving the following information:
  1. Identity
  2. Social Security number
  3. Lawful status (i.e. citizenship)
  4. Indiana residency (two unique documents)
Your daughter will also have to pass a knowledge exam and a vision screening in order to get her driving permit. It can help to enroll your daughter in a Driver’s Ed course to teach her the information that she needs to know, but you can also help her study for the knowledge test yourself if you prefer.
