How do I get my car towed for free?

What's the cheapest way to tow a car? My car isn’t the most reliable right now. Occasionally—actually, more than I’d like to admit—it breaks down and I have to get it towed. The expense has been adding up. Is there any way to have your car towed for free?

“Sorry to hear about your car breaking down. Multiple tows sound pricey! But fortunately, there are a few things you can do to give your wallet a break.
The first thing you need to know is that some car insurance companies, credit card providers, and auto manufacturers will have your car towed for free. Check with them first to see if you’re already covered!
If not, here are a few helpful hacks:
  • Check your warranty: Some automakers actually include towing and/or roadside assistance as part of the warranty. So if your warranty is still effective, you may be all set! Coverage varies, so be sure to give your dealership a call and have your vehicle identification number (VIN) ready.
  • Read your car insurance policy: Some insurance policies include towing—so you may already be paying for it. If you have
    collision and/or comprehensive coverage
, it’s worth looking into whether tows are covered. Contact your provider if you have questions.
  • Ask your wireless service provider: Some mobile carriers actually cover services like locksmith assistance, tire changes, gas services, and—you guessed it—towing. These carriers include AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint. Contact your carrier to learn more.
  • Get roadside assistance: Standalone roadside assistance services typically offer towing coverage through their memberships. The cost of membership often includes a certain number of tows for a certain number of miles. As each company’s policy differs, contact the roadside assistance provider for further details.
If you’re looking for roadside assistance at a great price, try
Jerry
. Jerry’s membership provides you with industry-leading roadside assistance, including benefits like towing, lockout service, and a mechanics hotline.”
